Freedom - What does that actually mean in practice?

How free are people with disabilities? And what does that have to do with us?

How free are people with disabilities? And what does that have to do with us?

With its Bistro Belvedere and the InHotel Mainfranken, the AWO Unterfranken ensures that people with disabilities have jobs subject to social insurance contributions, a decent salary, a good working atmosphere and good working conditions. After all, people with disabilities are constantly coming up against limits. Many of these limits do not have to be. Often we can’t even recognize such limits because we can’t relate to what it’s like to go through life blind or deaf or without arms or legs or with anxiety disorders and other limitations.

Young. And free?

Young. And free?

Julia Hackober writes: “What does freedom mean to us? To me, at least, more than the question of whether you have to wear a mouth-nose protection in the supermarket for a while. It is a coincidence that the essay book free - perspectives on freedom was published this year, but the topic is of course very relevant right now. And I am very happy that I was able to contribute to this project!

Dogan's Experience: Discrimination at school

Dogan's Experience: Discrimination at school

When structural discrimination restricts freedom” The quote from the co-inventor of the corona vaccine, Prof. Ugur, is shocking. And yet many children in Germany experience the same thing. Dogan, who works successfully in the business world after having graduated, writes: “I was also given this experience. My teacher kept telling me that I should find something as a construction worker. I was not suitable for any other profession. Good thing I didn’t listen to her discriminating opinion at the time.

Freedom and Responsability

Freedom and Responsability

Freedom and responsability - nearly 3 hours of discussion non stop. Do we worry about what is currently going on? About freedom and lack of freedom, about rights, duties and responsibility? In the academic bookstore Knodt this was done very emphatically in a conversation with Pia Beckmann. A senior told how he was brought up to be a passionate Nazi. When he was 10 years old and the Americans invaded, he would have loved to mow them down with a machine gun.

Freedom is to be defended in cities and communities

Freedom is to be defended in the communities On October 8, 2020, the Bayerische Gemeindezeitung reported on the dialogue project “free - Perspectives on Freedom”. Democracy ist only as protective as we are

Democracy ist only as protective as we are

Today Conny`s mail arrived. His statement here for you: Our democracy is only as strong as we, the democrats, are ready to stand up for it! It is our German Constitution, the Balance of Power and the Rule of Law, which provide the very foundation of our freedom. The Third Power plays a crucial role as guarantor and guardian of our liberty rights. As the state holds the monopoly on the use of force, the Police and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution have to act strictly in accordance with the Constitutional Law.

Manu from Aleppo

Manu from Aleppo

Sensitive and precious is our freedom, just like a face mask made of pure silk. We must take care of both and do something to preserve them. Ten face masks were sewn by tailor Manu from exclusive tie silk. Manu has a special relationship to freedom. Because he had lost his, he values it all the more. Especially freedom in peace and democracy. His history moves: Exactly five years ago to the month Manu Ibrahim, who had fled from Aleppo in Syria, arrived in the Würzburg area.

Our Freedom at Risk?

Our Freedom at Risk?

While we are preparing and stimulating a public debate on freedom, in book form, through local events and digitally, the news is rolling in Germany, Europe and beyond: showing us how our freedom is being attacked, how fear is being spread, how public acceptance of justice, police or emergency services is being undermined and how the rule of law is being upset. A few examples, only from Germany? We do not accept “that people are exposed to hatred, contempt and violence.
