“With a nationwide action week of the independent book retail, the commitment of owner-led bookshops is celebrated: From October 31 to November 7, the week of independent bookshops (WUB) with a small program takes place locally also in Würzburg.

2020 has shown how important the commitment of the stationary bookstores is: While a large online retailer temporarily stopped shipping books during the lockdown in spring, all Würzburg booksellers continued to advise their customers by phone and online with closed store doors. Author’s Saturday on 31 October

In the week of independent bookshops there is the opportunity to talk to two authors from Würzburg about their new book publications: on Saturday, October 31, between 12 and 2 p.m.

At Dreizehneinhalb in Eichhornstraße, Sonja Weichand will sign her first novel “Schuld Bewusstsein” (awareness of guilt) about the role of women today and in the Nazi era.

Dr. Pia Beckmann talks to visitors to the Knodt bookstore in Textorstraße about her book “free - Perspektiven auf die Freiheit” (free - Perspectives on Freedom). With this book, Beckmann wants to initiate a discussion on the topic of freedom and democracy in times of worldwide crises and the pandemic.
